777 Center reaches nearly full occupancy
RENO, Nev. – The old Maytan Building at 777 Center Street in Midtown, has experienced a true renaissance, going from music store to mixed-use retail space with nearly full occupancy as Bukko, an Asian-Latin fusion restaurant, opens soon.
Owned and managed SVN® Gold Dust Commercial in Reno and Carson City, the building now houses pizza house Noble Pie Parlor, Piñon Bottle craft beers, the newly opening Bukko, as well as Lokal Salon, and The Eyelash Connection and Mystique Boutique.
“Our main driver in acquiring the building was all the great things going on in Midtown,” Tomi Jo Lynch, managing director for SVN®, said. “We were looking for a long-term investment in the heart of Midtown, and we were certainly right about the Maytan building. It was risky, but it’s been fun to see what property values have done in the past two years.”
Lynch said SVN® wanted to tap into the sense of community fostered by Midtown merchants and community affection for the Maytan location. Her father, Tom Johnson, is the mastermind behind the project, and Lynch said long-time associates Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, LLC is their preferred contractor on projects.
“My dad has known Jeff [Shaheen] for years,” she said. “We needed the remodel to meet our expectations and be profitable, and Shaheen Beauchamp played a big role in helping us make this happen.”
For their part in the renaissance of 777 Center, Shaheen Beauchamp Builders received the 2016 Summit Award for Mixed-Use Development of the Year from the Northern Nevada chapters of Certified Commercial Investment Member Institute, Commercial Real Estate Women and NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
“Because of the nostalgic connection locals felt with the Maytan Building, we were pleased to be able to present a final product that emphasized community and fellowship with the courtyard and second floor deck area,” Jeff Shaheen, co-founder of Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, said. “This building has been a fixture in Reno for many years, and will be a centerpiece in Midtown for many years to come.”
Lynch said their concept of building a courtyard to inspire community interaction is paying off.
“The courtyard is crowded, people are going back and forth between shops and restaurants,” she said. “It’s really rewarding to see this vision come to life.”
