Grand opening specials available this weekend

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Salvation Army cut the ribbon and opened the doors to its new Family Store at 3320 Research Way in Carson City Thursday morning to an excited crowd eager to see the all-new (to the store and the region) merchandise for sale.

The 18,000-square-foot store, part of what may be the first speculative warehouse space built in Carson City in a decade, offers greater floor space and a brightly lit interior for more merchandise and easier shopping.

“We’re offering a department store experience at thrift store prices,” Lt. Shari Fowler of the Salvation Army, Reno Corps, said.

Major Charles Fowler, also of the Salvation Army, Reno Corps, said the store provides funding for the Salvation Army’s recovery programs serving 200-300 people each year in Northern Nevada.

“We’ve changed the name from Thrift Store to Family Store to really focus on our purpose – recycling donated goods in order to restore families and lives,” he said in his opening remarks. “It’s the first of its kind in Northern Nevada.”

Jeff Shaheen, co-founder of Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, general contractor of the building, said the store is an exciting addition to the business park on Research Way.

“My family started this business park 30 years ago and we’re happy to have the Salvation Army and its programs and mission here,” he said. “Welcome to the family.”

The 28,500-square foot building, located at 3320 Research Way, has 10,000 square feet of space that can be divided down into smaller units still available for lease. The $3.5 million building is completed and ready for quick occupancy.

Architecture and design for 3320 Research Way was completed by Joey Lassonde Design and Resource Concepts Inc. John Uhart Commercial Real Estate is the broker on the building.
