Media invited to share in the celebration, mayoral presentation

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Cipriani’s Downtown Barber Shop, located at 318 N. Carson Street, held its grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting Wednesday, April 4, with a ribbon-cutting and a mayoral ceremonial shave.

Nick Fontanez, owner of Cipriani’s, learned the art of gentlemen’s grooming growing up at his grandparents’ shop, the original Cipriani’s Barber Shop, a Carson City fixture for four decades.

“I grew up in that shop,” he said. “After going to school, I’ve taken what I’ve learned and developed my own style.”

Cipriani’s offers haircuts and styling, straight razor shaves, facial hair trimming and grooming, and features Shiny Soles shoe shine service by Mike Smith on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Food and soft drinks by Battle Born Social, which shares the first floor of 318 N. Carson Street, featuring Barber’s Bourbon for the gentlemen and Battle Born Cosmopolitans, made with Deep Eddy Cranberry Vodka, lime and fresh sage grown in-house, for the ladies.

Fontanez said he wanted to make sure to have special cocktails available for the ladies because many women make appointments for their men to come in for an updated look.

“If you don’t feel like a gentleman when you walk in, you will definitely feel like one when you walk out,” he said.

The new Cipriani’s Downtown Barber Shop is situated on the first floor of the historic building that formerly housed Murdock’s Clothing Store, recently renovated and occupied by its current owners, Shaheen Beauchamp Builders. Battle Born Social restaurant, Carson Cigar Company and Visiting Angels also occupy suites in the building, and office space is still available.

Fontanez said he is excited to be in the heart of downtown Carson City, in the same building as Battle Born Social and Carson Cigar Company.

“The barber shop is a social hub,” he said. “This is a perfect location to come get a haircut, a shave and a shoe shine, and then enjoy the atmosphere with friends.”

Smith, owner of Shiny Soles, will be on hand, as he put it, “to put a glow on your toe.” Smith said he also offers drop off and pick up service for clients for five or more pairs of shoes.

“Good shoes are an investment, and this is a good way to take care of your investment,” he said. “I do a clean, condition and polish for all kinds of shoes, handbags and leather apparel.”

Cipriani’s is open 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with walk-in service with barber John Russell. For appointments, call (775) 515-4038. For information on Shiny Soles, call Mike Smith at (775) 508-9305.
